Francis is a very interesting man to say the least.
His mom is from Chile and his dad is from France. He was born and raised in San Francisco and at just over 40 years old, has traveled over 80 countries.
He speaks fluent Spanish, French and English but also basic Portuguese and Italian!
What really stood out for me is that he opted to get a degree in religion. Bet you don’t hear too many people who can say that! He also holds an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Francis co-founded a Silicon Valley company and worked for Microsoft.
He has backpacked to a crazy number of countries (over 80) and written two books while backpacking Europe:
The Hidden Europe: What Eastern Europeans Can Teach Us (Wanderlearn Series)
Hike Your Own Hike: 7 Life Lessons from Backpacking Across America (Wanderlearn)
In the interview, he has heaps of great advice including
- How FU money really sets you free.
- How the Appalachian trail really kicked off his love for hiking and traveling
- A good way to differentiate yourself in the workplace
- How travel teaches you about yourself
- and more …
Oh, and he has a 21 year old girlfriend! We good chat about girls, dating and relationships after I stopped recording the interview, it was rather amusing – a really interesting guy with lots of good advice.
